Named after the late scholar, educator, and activist who fought for recognition and preservation of Fil Am history in Stockton, the Dawn earrings are a chandelier hoop inspired by the aesthetics of traditional artisanal Filipino jewelry. These filigree hoops with clear quartz are adorned with dangling strands of gold-plated beads and citrine, garnet, and lapis lazuli to represent the colors of the Philippine flag.

  • Hoop: Brass
  • Gold Beads: 14k Gold-Plated
  • Ear Wires: 14k Gold-Plated; Hypoallergenic

This piece is crafted with raw brass and gold-plated brass components. Over time, brass may naturally oxidize, and the gold plating may wear off, which may cause slight color changes. To maintain its beauty, we recommend practicing proper jewelry care:

  • Storage: Store your jewelry on a hanging display to prevent tangling and scratching.
  • Avoid Moisture: Keep your jewelry away from water, perfumes, and lotions, as contact with liquids or chemicals may speed up tarnishing.
  • Clean Gently: To remove fingerprints or build up, use a soft, dry cloth and gently polish the surface. We recommend using cloths specifically made for cleaning jewelry such as the ones seen here.

The late Dr. Dawn Mabalon was a dedicated historian who devoted her career to the preservation and documentation of Filipinx American History in Stockton, CA. After completing her undergraduate studies and learning about her very own Stockton Fil Am community in the classroom, she returned to her hometown and founded Little Manila Rising. During this time, the last remaining buildings in Little Manila, once home to the Manong/Manang generation of Filipinx farmworkers who had immigrated in the 1920s and 1930s, were facing demolition. This disregard for the legacy of Filipinx farmworkers, whose back breaking labor had been instrumental in establishing California as a global agricultural center, spurred Ate Dawn's activism. Little Manila activists vehemently opposed the redevelopment of the area and successfully convinced the city of Stockton to designate it as a historic site. Ateh Dawn's dedication extended beyond Stockton, as she worked tirelessly to share the stories of Filipinx farmworkers with the wider public. Her seminal 2013 publication, "Little Manila is in the Heart: The Making of the Filipina/o American Community in Stockton, California," stands as a testament to her enduring legacy.
